NAIA Football-2002 Wheat Bowl Results
The NAIA Football Season kicked off in Ellingwood Kansas as the Midland Lutheran Warriors knocked off Bacone 25-15. Bacone got off to a very good start as Michael Swalley opened the game with a 94 yard return to put Bacone out to a 7-0 lead, but Midland was still able to power themselves to victory behind the excellent play of sophomore QB Josh Lanik. Lanik rushed for 2 TDs and 45 yards and threw for 116 and 2 TDs. His main target was Theo Bland who caught 3 balls for 90 yards. Chris Strehle also ran for 108 yards. Bacone was lead by QB Clay Waggle 43 rushing yards and 129 yards through the air. Swalley had 3 receptions for 46 yards. Over 2000 attended the first game of the season.
