NAIA Football-Chips Gameday Picks

December 20th National Championship

NWOSU
Here we are, the moment we have been waiting for!  This game could go one of two ways, either the high powered offenses will put 40 points on the board, or we'll have a defensive struggle.  Without going too far, Emmert and Crayton are two of the best in the NAIA at their trade.  Emmert doesn't miss and Crayton will make you miss.  I hope the CSTV camera people can keep up with all the action!
Carroll 17 NWOSU 16
Carroll

December 6th Playoff Games

St. Francis Ind
Home field advantage is huge in this semifinal game.  However, St. Francis has the most balanced attack that Carroll has seen this season.  The Cougars QB, Brammel, does a tremendous job running this offense.  But Carroll's offense has the most weapons USF has seen all year.  Emmert should lead the Saints to victory, but it won't be easy.
Carroll 31 USF 17
Carroll
NWOSU
You will not find a more athletic match up than these two.  In the games I have been at this season I have always said these two schools are the most athletic and hardest hitting teams I've seen all season.  Sunday morning will be the sorest these teams have been all season.  With that said, I could change my mind on this game a hundred times this week, so I'll just pick it.
USF 21 NWOSU 20
Sioux Falls

November 29th Playoff Games

St. Francis Ind
Rematch of an early season thriller where USF won on a last second play 45-40 at home.  This week SAU comes off a huge upset of undefeated MNU, while USF knocked out perennial power Georgetown.  Emotions will be running high in Fort Wayne for this MSFA rematch.
USF 31 SAU 28
St. Ambrose
Mary
The defending national champion gets their first big test of the postseason as they match up against a very dangerous Mary football team.  Mary has a lot of weapons, but the question is, will it be enough to stop the Fightin' Saints?
Carroll 21 Mary 7
Carroll
Northwestern
Another rematch of conference foe's as Northwestern travels to USF for this battle.  The Coo got the upper hand in the regular season, but the Red Raiders have been unphased since the loss.
USF 24 Northwestern 14
Sioux Falls
NWOSU
How will DSU handle the athleticism of the Rangers?  By the looks of it they will combat it with weather and steady play as they come off the defeat of Lambuth.  NWOSU will showcase the nations most dangerous football player in Patrick Crayton as DSU will rely on a steady ground game.
NWOSU 35 DSU 15
Dickinson State
5-3 In the first round of the playoffs . . .

November 22nd Playoff Games

St. Francis Ind
Kevin Donley vs Bill Cronin in the Georgetown coaching match up. For those of you who missed it, Donley was the head coach at GT taking them into the playoffs several times before starting the USF program. GT is not as good as they have been in the past, and this might be the year for the St. Francis to make a run at the title.
USF 20 Georgetown 19
Georgetown
Mary
APU's last home playoff game was in 1999 when they lost to Georgetown 66-35, if they get past round one, they might have a huge advantage until the national championship game. However, Mary means business. Their only loss of the season came to DSU in a nail-biter. APU's travel might set them back early in the playoffs, but if not, watch out.
Mary 17 APU 7
Azusa Pacific
Benedictine
Larry Wilcox vs. Bob Young. The NAIA should bring some plaques with them and make this a coaching hall of fame induction. You can't find two better programs and people than in this match up.  USF has too many weapons.
USF 31 Benedictine 17
Sioux Falls
Carroll
McKendree gets to head north to Montana to take on the boys from Carroll. McKendree has a pretty solid defense, but one has to wonder what jetlag will do for the spirit of the Bearcats in this game. Carroll gets the home game and a start at repeating as a national champion.
Carroll 35 McKendree 17
McKendree
St. Ambrose
St. Ambrose makes one of the shorter playoff trips to Kansas City to take on one of the most dangerous teams in the NAIA. The Bee's running game against the MNU running defense will be a battle of who bends the most. Perhaps the biggest factor in this game will be how SAU's defense reacts to the Pioneer "O".
MNU 27 SAU 17
MidAmerica Nazarene
Lambuth
Lambuth has to jump aboard a Greyhound and get to North Dakota for their first round game with Dickinson State. Some may think weather will be a problem for Vic Wallace and company, but the Lambuth running game should be just fine in the weather of ND. As for DSU, they are just trying to get a playoff win. After qualifying last season, the BlueHawks bowed out to Mary in the first round.
Lambuth 17 DSU 16
Dickinson State
Ottawa
This is a great match up in the first round. Two powerful running games attacking one another at the home of one of the most historic programs in the NAIA. Derrick Ward will be the best running back that Northwestern will face all season long. This one will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes.
Ottawa 21 Northwestern 17
Northwestern
Tabor
Tabor is one of two KCAC teams to make it into the playoffs. However they will have their backs against the wall when they travel to Alva, OK for this match up. Patrick Crayton has steadily improved at QB for NW OK and this might be his breakout game.
NW OK 49 Tabor 20
Northwestern Oklahoma

November 15th Featured Games

St. Francis Ind
Walsh is in a must win situation.  They must win to have a chance at the playoffs.  The chance is slim, but the Cavaliers have an outside shot.
USF 24 Walsh 14

St. Ambrose
McKendree looks to have an advantage for the playoffs, but St. Ambrose could play the role of spoiler.  A McKendree loss could put Trinity International into the post season. McKendree
Lambuth
This game could decide who gets into the playoffs.  LU has the advantage in the ranking, but Cumberland is in a great position to get into the post season.
Lambuth 21 Cumberland 10
Cumberland KY
Tabor
Tabor has a definite chance at making it into the playoffs.  But they have to get past McPherson first.  The Bulldogs have a great team, but Tabor has too much on the line to loose this one.

MidAmerica Nazarene
MNU/Evangel.  Not a lot you can say here except two of the nations very best square off this Saturday.  As for QBs, it the best head to head match-up this season.  Booth vs. Mitchell.  In the end, defense will win this one
MNU 24 Evangel 14

St. Xavier
If TIU can win this game, they can be the biggest spoiler of the season for SXU.  SXU can win out and have a chance at the post season.  But a loss opens the door for Olivet Nazarene and McKendree.  TIU has talent and the home field

Georgetown
Georgetown really has to tip-toe their way through the rest of the season.  One mistake and they could be held out of the post season for the first time since 1998.

McKendree looks to be heading to the playoffs, but this game is could decide the MSFA MW champion or create a large problem for the post season.  Both team are 4-1 in the conference with the winner in this one possibly going to the post season.

Ottawa controls their own destiny in this KCAC match-up.  The Braves have proved they are the best in the KCAC, now they have to keep on their feet until selection Sunday.  McPherson can really play the role of spoiler if they live up to to their potential

Huge rivalry in the GPAC.  Usually this time of year one of these two teams are looking at the postseason.  But this year both teams look to be staying at home when the season ends.  MLC has had a great run this season, and will try to keep up that pace at home this weekend.

November 1st Featured Games

Georgetown
The winner of this game will make it to the playoffs, the loser might have to spend the post season at home.  Georgetown will have to rebound from getting their pass "D" torn apart while Campbellsville needs to get through the first quarter.  If CU comes out and plays toe-to-toe with GT in the first half we'll have a great one. GOT IT
Georgetown 24 Campbellsville 17

Two of the nation's top teams square off in Olathe this weekend for a game that could decide the HAAC championship.  Benedictine is in the drivers seat as they have already defeated Evangel, but MNU has some outstanding talent at their skill positions.  Look for this one to go down to the wire, with the healthier team winning.
MNU 23 Benedictine 17 got it
MidAmerica Nazarene

Both teams are undefeated and highly ranked.  In fact their was only one other game this season that had higher ranked teams participating.  USF has to travel for this game and is coming off a huge win over Hastings.  Northwestern has risen to their prominence of old and look to head back to the playoffs.  Orv and Bob won't let this one go without a fight.

Great matchup in the HAAC, one that could decide a conference championship for yet another year.  Evangel has the best QB in the nation, but Benedictine has one of the best traditions.  Should be a great game, that's why we'll be there.  In the end, Evangel might have too much offense for the Raven's.

St. Ambrose
Two playoff qualifiers from last season, meeting in the regular season again.  St. Francis quietly has the most potent offensive attack in the nation.  St. Ambrose has a great running attack, which could shorten the game enough for the win.  In the end this one will go down to the wire.

Nebraska Wesleyan
After a week one loss to Sioux Falls, Nebraska Wesleyan has steam rolled their way through the conference.  Northwestern has shocked some with how well they have done up to now, but this game will be the true test.  Red Raider's run is powerful, but Wesleyan is very balanced.  Home Field is a big factor in this game.

Dickinson State
DAC-10 Champions from previous years.  These two programs are at the top of the conference and the winner of this one is in the driver seat to the playoffs.  Weather won't factor into this game as much as it has in other huge games in the DAC-10.  My opinion on this game changes every day I look at it on paper, but I have to make a decision.
